Goodbye Lamborghini Huracan Performante, and Hello Huracan STO!

Unveiled officially today, and as the name implies, the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Omologata (or STO) is essentially a road-going version of the Squadra Corse race cars.

Fulfilling that purpose is an entirely new aerodynamic package that is 21mm wider than the standard Huracan Evo, which sits below it. Around the front, the bonnet, bumper and front guards have been integrated into a single massive clamshell that opens forwards, similar to the iconic Miura and Sesto Elemento.

It incorporates the new brake cooling inlets and redesigned front splitter, which channels air to the revised underbody and rear diffuser. The bonnet features a pair of sizeable bonnet ducts for venting the central radiator to improve cooling and increase downforce. They do however, eat into the ‘boot’ space, leaving just a small compartment to stow a helmet for track days.

Lamborghini has done major reengineering work at the back, where the rear guards are adapted from the Super Trofeo and are flatter towards the back. They not only reduce the frontal area and thus, drag, but also increase downforce and improve overall aerodynamics. The fins along the top of the guards channel air into the NACA engine intakes with shorter ducting to reduce static pressure losses by 30%.

The new engine cover features a roof scoop and dedicated deflectors to manage the extra, while a massive fin is said to increase yaw stability and straightens airflow over the fixed rear wing.

As a result, the STO is claimed to have 53% more downforce and 37% better aerodynamic efficiency overall compared to the Huracan Performante.

Lamborghini has also upgraded the Huracan’s brakes with a Brembo CCM-R carbon-ceramic setup derived from F1 cars to provide a more superior thermal conductivity, stress resistance, and stopping power.

Three additional drive modes have been added to the Huracan STO: the road oriented STO, track-focused Trophy and the self-explanatory Rain.

Thanks to the 20% lighter windscreen and lightweight 20-inch magnesium wheels, the STO is 45kg lighter than the already lithe Performance, which itself is 40kg lighter than the standard Huracan, tipping the scales at 1,339kg dry.

Fire power (along with the seven-speed dual-clutch) remains unchanged, featuring the same naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 that pumps out 470kW as the all-wheel drive Huracan Evo and superseded rear-drive Hurcan Performante. Interestingly, the rear-drive Hurcan STO has “only” 565Nm of torque against the 600Nm of the aforementioned models.

Nevertheless, it needs just 3.0 seconds to sprint from 0-100km/h, while 0-200km/h comes up in 9.0 seconds before maxing out at 310km/h. Lamborghini says the supercar will come to a complete stop from 100km/h in 30m.

Lamborghini has unwrapped its first electrified model in the form of the a hybrid supercar.

Appropriately named Sian which translates to thunderbolt in the local dialect of the Bologna region of Italy, home to Lamborghini, the hybrid supercar is engineered around “unique” hybrid technologies and promises to deliver “the extraordinary emotion and exceptional dynamic performance of a naturally aspirated Lamborghini super sports car, while meeting a future demanding electrification”.

Slated to make its first public appearance at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show next week, the Italian exotic combines a mid-mounted 6.5-litre V12 normally aspirated petrol engine that produces a staggering 577kW and 720Nm with a 48-volt 25kW/40Nm electric motor embedded in the transmission.

The total output of 602kW is enough to launch the Sian from zero to 100km/h in less than 2.8 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating Lamborghini ever. Flat out, the Sian will creep beyond 350km/h.

The energy accumulation technology is a world first. Rather than a lithium-ion battery the Sian innovates supercapacitor application: a technology pioneered originally in the Lamborghini Aventador but dramatically developed to store ten times the power.

According to Lamborghini the supercapacitor is three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight and three times lighter than a battery producing the same power. Located in the bulkhead between cockpit and engine it ensures perfect weight distribution. The supercapacitor and e-motor combo weighs just 34 kg.

The unique hybrid system eliminates any power loss during gear upshifts by filling the void with torque from the electric motor. As a result the driver will feel “only the pull backward of acceleration, eliminating any possible uncomfortable jerking movements”.

In terms of design, the Sian takes its futuristic inspiration from the iconic Lamborghini Countach. The Gandini line is evident in its profile, while the silhouette introduces new features such as the characteristic aero wings, giving the Sián an unmistakable profile.

The iconic Lamborghini ‘Y’ shape can be seen in the air inlets on the doors, glass elements are included in the engine cover, and the diagonal line features in the bonnet, as in the Countach.

Just 63 Lamborghini Sians will be built at a price yet to be disclosed, however none are destined for Australia at this stage.

Lamborghini has dropped a pair of special edition models at the Monterey Car Week. Created to mark the raging bull’s founding year of 1963, the aptly named Lamborghini Aventador SVJ 63 Roadster made its public debut alongside another special Lambo called the Huracán EVO GT Celebration.

According to Lamborghini, the Aventador SVJ 63 Roadster is the most exclusive open top Aventador the brand has produced. With just 63 units slatted to roll off the production line, the model comes with virtually limitless colour and trim options available through Lamborghini’s personalisation programme.

On the outside, the Roadster features unique matte or shiny carbon fibre roof, engine air vents, windscreen rim, wing mirrors and engine cover, along with matte titanium finished Leirion forged rim. It is further distinguished via its SVJ 63 livery, as well as a numbered plague that marks its cue on the production line.

Inside, the Alcantara interior comes in three colours featuring carbon fibre elements throughout and complemented by Lamborghini’s patented lightweight CarbonSkin. There’s a special badge on the steering wheel that identifies the car as one of a limited edition, as well as a ‘63’ logo on the rear wall in Alcantara and CarbonSkin.

The model is purely a styling exercise and as such, is powered by the same V12 engine as the regular SVJ churning out 566kW at 8,500rpm and 720Nm of torque at 6,750. It is blast from 0-100km/h in a mere 2.9 seconds, while 200km/h is done in just 8.8 seconds. Top speed is rated at more than 350km/h.

Meanwhile, the Huracán EVO GT is a homage to the car’s racing success in North America, specifically at the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring for two consecutive seasons.

As such, its design evokes the livery of the GRT Grasser Racing Team and Paul Miller Racing with a combination of Verde Egeria green and Arancio Aten orange. Its racecar look is underscored by both the hexagons on the doors and bonnet that frame the number “11”, which is inspired by the number plates for the racing cars.

Lamborghini will also personalise customer’s cars with the Lamborghini Squadra Corse shield on the roof framed by either the Italian or American flags, along with laurel wreaths placed on the rear fender upon request.

Inside, the interior is upholstered in Alcantara with contrasting stitching in the same colour as the livery.

The Huracán EVO GT is powered by the same aspirated V10 engine as the race car and is only offered for sale in the U.S.

Lamborghini is reportedly considering a more hardcore version of its Urus SUV, which could be based on the ST-X Concept unveiled last year.

According to Digital Trends, Lamborghini’s head of research and development, Maurizio Reggiani confirmed that the ST-X could indeed spawn a road car. This in turn suggests reports circulating last week that Lamborghini is working on a lighter and faster version of the Urus SUV to likely be true.

The Urus ST-X was built to compete in the one-make on- and off-road series which is set to take place in Europe and the Middle East in 2020.

The ST-X Concept is essentially a stripped-out racing version of the Urus featuring extensive carbon fibre body parts that reduce its weight by 25 per cent, tipping the scale at just over 1,600kg.

“The hardest part of the project was deciding the level of common components shared by the Urus and the ST-X. We needed to identify the components that can remain exactly the same, and the one that must be modified in order to be suitable for racing. The target is to change as little as possible,” said Reggiani about the racer.

While the study is powered by an untuned version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 found under the road car, the new hardcore road-going Urus would likely churn out more than the standard car’s 484kW and 850Nm, cutting the 0-100km/h time of 3.6 seconds along the way.

A Lamborghini Huracan Performante has had an unfortunate encounter with a tree and a brick wall while leaving a supercar meet organised by high-end U.K. dealer HR Owen in London.

Presumably in an attempt to put on a show to impress the gathered crowd, the owner of the Italian supercar thought it was a good idea to sprint down a narrow road with parked cars on the side.

Instead of accelerating away in a straight line with screeching tyres and screaming V10, the 477kW supercar somehow ended up crashing into a tree and a brick wall. Luckily no one, including the driver, was injured in the incident, except for a very bruised ego.

As for the Huracan, it wasn’t as lucky, as it sustained some serious damages to the driver’s side and will need extensive amount of repair work to get it back into shape – that’s if it’s not being written-off by the insurer.

According to onlookers, the driver of what used to be the fastest production car at the Nürburgring wanted to leave in style by using launch control. But because the tyres were cold, traction was limited and the result was catastrophic.

This is by no means the first Huracan Performante to meet with an unfortunate end. Late last year, a similar model was destroyed after a pump mishap at a petrol station.

Lamborghini has lopped the roof off its flagship Aventador SVJ to create a limited edition Roadster model, which is to be limited to just 800 units globally.

Unveiled for the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the SVJ Roadster retains the coupe’s underpinnings and the majority of its aerodynamic bodywork. That is, minus the roof, which has been replaced with removable carbon-fibre panels that can be stowed in the front storage area.

The same 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 is situated behind the seats, which delivers a rampaging 566kW of power at 8,500rpm and 720Nm of torque at 6,750rpm. That power is channeled to all four wheels through a carry-over single-clutch automated manual transmission.

Gaining just 50kg over the coupe, tipping the scales at 1,575kg, the SVJ Roadster is capable of 0-100km/h in a blistering 2.9 seconds, and 0-200km/h in 8.8 seconds – increases of just 0.1 and 0.2 of a second respectively over the coupe.

Furthermore, its massive brakes – carbon ceramic discs measuring 400mm front and 380mm rear, with six-piston and four-piston calipers respectively – will bring it to a halt from 100km/h in just 31 metres. It’s top speed is pegged by Lamborghini as being “more than 350km/h.”

Producing 40 per cent more downforce than the Aventador SV Roadster, its suite of aerodynamic features and technology has warranted Lamborghini giving the package a name – Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva 2.0.

Active flaps in the front and rear wings that adjust in less than 500 milliseconds and allow the car to reduce drag to enable it to achieve its top speed, or to increase downforce over the rear wheels for increased cornering speeds. An active aero vectoring system directs air to either side of the rear wing to increase traction on the inner wheel through corners in order to reduce the steering angle required and to improve its stability.

There are also larger side intakes and front side fins than those sported on the Aventador S to increase its aerodynamic properties even further.

The digital instrument cluster will also allow the driver to see the exact status of the ALA system in real-time. Also on the technology front, Apple CarPlay will be made available as a no-cost option.

To ensure all 800 examples will be as unique as possible, Lamborghini claims that “around 250 colours” will be available, along with the full availability of Lamborghini’s Ad Personam interior personalisation program.

Initial deliveries of the SVJ Roadster will take place in Europe during Q3 2019, just in time for their summer. European pricing will start from €387,000, although any Australian buyers can expect the Roadster to cost near, if not over the $1 million mark.

Lamborghini has unveiled its new drop-top Huracan Evo Spyder ahead of its official debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show at the start of March.

Sporting the same naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 as the Huracan Evo coupe, it matches the hardtop’s hefty 470kW and 600Nm power and torque figures, with the engine coupled to the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and Haldex all-wheel drive system.

With a revised freer-flowing exhaust system part of the upgrades for the Huracan Evo, the drop-top is sure to give even better access to hearing it roar.

Weighing in at 1,542kg – 120kg heavier than the coupe – it’s good for 0-100km/h in just 3.1 seconds, while it can hit 200km/h from a standstill in 9.3 seconds. Those figures are 0.2 and 0.3 of a second slower than the hardtop respectively, although its 325km/h claimed top speed is identical.

Mirroring the specs of the coupe, it sports 20-inch wheels as standard, which come shod in staggered Pirelli P Zero rubber, measuring in at 245/30 front, and 305/30 rear. Further enhancing the Spyder’s handling is the standard fitment of four-wheel steering and an active magneto-rheological suspension system.

The Spyder’s soft-top is powered by an electro-hydraulic system capable of raising or lowering it in a claimed 17 seconds at speeds of up to 50km/h. A set of pop-up roll bars are fitted in case of the car taking a tumble for whatever reason, too.

Additionally, for those who care, an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay compatibility is also now standard fit, although we don’t suspect it will be as great a selling point as the howling V10 sat right behind you would be.

The Huracan Evo Spyder will make its debut next week at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Details of its official launch are yet to be announced, although the Huracan Evo coupe has been confirmed to land locally around July this year.

Lamborghini has unveiled the next evolution of the Huracan – fittingly dubbed the Huracan Evo – with the updated model sporting a tweaked design, additional standard equipment, and a more powerful drivetrain.

The Huracan’s front-end has been given a revised bumper design with less black space than before and revised side intakes, while the rear of the car – which has been changed more dramatically – sees the tailpipes and number plate positioned much higher than before.

Additionally, the rear lip spoiler has been heightened and the diffuser is now painted to match the body colour of the car, which can now be painted in a new shade of orange dubbed Arancio Xanto.

On the inside, the Huracan has also been given a revision with the introduction of a new 8.4-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay compatibility that controls the majority of in-car functions. A dual-camera telemetry system is also available.

Although there’s still the same basic 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 behind the cabin, the engine of the standard Huracan LP-610 has been switched out for the unit from the pre-facelift Performante variant, meaning that power is now up to 470kW at a screaming 8,000rpm and torque peaks at 600Nm at 6,500rpm courtesy of changes including titanium intake valves and a lighter, freer-flowing exhaust system.

There’s also a new integrated vehicle dynamics processor – officially known as Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata – to control the car’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, magneto rheological suspension, all-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering, four-wheel torque vectoring, and dynamic steering systems.

20-inch wheels clad in staggered Pirelli P Zero rubber – 245/30 front, 305/30 rear – are fitted as standard, as are carbon-ceramic brakes capable of bringing the Huracan Evo to a standstill from 100km/h in just 31.9 metres.

According to Lamborghini’s claims, the Huracan Evo will be able to complete the o-100km/h sprint in 2.9 seconds, while 0-200km/h should take 9.0 seconds – identical to the Performante. Top speed is listed at 325km/h.

When it goes on sale in Australia, the Huracan Evo will be priced from $459,441 before on-road costs. European deliveries will commence during the second quarter of this year, while the revised model is set to arrive locally some time after July.

The Lamborghini Urus isn’t what you’d call demure, but Vorsteiner obviously thinks otherwise as they have introduced a body kit that dials up the Lambo SUV’s aggression an extra notch.

At the front, the kit brings a more prominent lower splitter and a carbon fibre bonnet with a prominent extractor in the centre and additional sculpting to the Urus.

Down the sides, Vorsteiner has added chunkier side sills and the tuner’s attractive five-spoke wheels with V-shaped ends.

Around the back, Vorsteiner offers a larger roof mounted wing and matching accent spoiler on the hatch, along with carbon fibre trim for the outlets on the rear bumper. There is also a much bigger diffuser sandwiched by a set of quad pipes.

The Vorsteiner kit is purely aesthetic, with the Urus’ 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that pumps out 484kW and 850Nm of torque remaining unchanged. It’s backed up by an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system that propels the luxury SUV from 0-100km/h in a mere 3.59 seconds.

A high-performance hybrid variant is expected to join the lineup some time in 2019, featuring a 4.0-litre V8 and electric assistance to lift power to around 507kW and 850Nm.

Meet the Lamborghini SC18, a one-off, road-legal track weapon built by the Italian supercar maker’s motorsport division, Lamborghini Squadra Corse.

Based on an Aventador, the SC18 was designed in synergy with the customer and Centre Stile Lamborghini, and is set to pave the way for further personalised development projects for well-heeled motorsport customers under the Squadra Corse brand.

Compared to the regular model, the SC18 gains a more prominent aero kit, including massive air intakes inspired by those on the Huracan GT3 EVO, while its rear fins, fenders and airscoops are borrowed from the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO.

As with most track-focused racers, there’s a towering carbon-fibre rear wing with three built-in mechanical adjustments that generates the required level of downforce at any speed.

The car also feature bespoke taillights which span almost the entire width of car, broken only to accommodate the Lamborghini script in the middle.

Ahead of the rear wing is a carbon fibre engine cover with twelve vents to improve heat exchange and cool the supercar’s monstrous V12 engine.

Speaking of which, the 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 churns out a muscular 574kW at 8,500rpm and a stout 720Nm of torque at 6,750rpm – the same as an Aventador SVJ. Power is channeled to all four wheels via an ISR-optimised (Independent Shifting Rod) seven-speed gearbox.

The SC18 is also equipped with a special exhaust system promising to elevate aural excitement even further.

To reduce weight, the car’s body is made out of carbon fibre, while to fulfill its track-ready brief, the SC18 rolls on single-nut wheels measuring 20-inch up front and 21-inch at the rear, shod with specially-developed Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. The car sits just 109mm off the ground and there’s also a special telemetry system to measure the car’s performance on track.

Outside, the SC18 is finished in a Grigio Daytona paint work matched with red highlights, while the interior features black Nero Ade Alcantara with red Rosso All cross-stitching.
